"Waiting On" Wednesday- (31)

"Waiting On" Wednesday is hosted by Breaking the Spine. The purpose of this event is to get bloggers to spotlight and share the books they are anticipating on coming out.

On my wishlist this Wednesday is: Clockwork Prince by Cassandra Clare

Description: In Clockwork Prince, with Mortmain vanished and the clock counting down on how long Charlotte can keep control of the Institute away from Benedict Lightwood, Will, Jem and Tessa must dig into Mortmain’s past to predict what he will do in the future, But secrets about Mortmain aren’t all they find buried — Tessa begins to uncover the truth about her own birth, and the ghosts of Will’s past return to haunt him. As Tessa grows closer to Jem, and Will is driven further toward the brink of madness by jealousy and guilt, will they discover the truth in time to halt the next phase of Mortmain’s evil plan.

Release Date: December 6, 2011

Why WOW? I just love all of Cassandra's books. Some people don't care for her descriptive writing style, but I love it. I'm in love with her mortal instruments series, and its nice to get a history of where the shadowhunters come from. Plus, I want to learn more about Will's tortured past, since Clockwork Angel left everything in a cloud of mystery. The cover is amazing, yet again. I can't believe I have to wait til December to dive back into the series. Team WILL all the way :)

Book Review: Immortal Beloved by Cate Tiernan

Immortal Beloved by Cate Tiernan

Released Date: September 7, 2010
Publisher: St. Martin's Press
Pages: Hardcover (407 pages)
Age Group: Young Adult
Series: Immortal Beloved #1
Genre: Paranormal
Author Website: http://catetiernan.org/
Overall Rating: (5 out of 5 stars)

Description:Nastasya has spent the last century living as a spoiled, drugged-out party girl. She feels nothing and cares for no one. But when she witnesses her best friend, a Dark Immortal, torture a human, she realizes something's got to change. She seeks refuge at a rehab for wayward immortals, where she meets the gorgeous, undeniably sexy Reyn, who seems inexplicably linked to her past.

Nastasya finally begins to deal with life, and even feels safe--until the night she learns that someone wants her dead.

Cate Tiernan, author of the popular Sweep series, returns with an engaging story of a timeless struggle and inescapable romance, the first book in a stunning new fantasy trilogy.

Book Trailer:

Memorable Quotes:

"Being good is something that one must choose over and over again, every day, throughout the day, for the rest of one’s life."

"I-just want you. I want you so bad, all the time. I know i shouldn't, I know I can't, I know it's wrong...but even when you're pissing me off, when you're reminding me of pain and despair and torture--its there, the wanting. I'm tired of fighting it. I fight so many things, all the time, every day. I don't want to fight this. Not anymore."

"Yes. Reyn is our resident horse master. He has an excellent seat."
I grinned. "I've noticed."

My Musings: I picked up this book during the final closing days at Borders. It was one of the few young adult books left over and I never heard of it. Looking at the back, the synopsis captured my attention with an original story of immortals, who go to a place equivalent to a rehab center for wayward immortals. If that is not enough originality to capture your attention then I don't know what is. I am really glad that I picked it up. The book is amazing.

Cover Art: I love the different use of colors on the cover. It really make the woman in the background standout.

"Waiting On" Wednesday- (29)

"Waiting On" Wednesday is hosted by Breaking the Spine. The purpose of this event is to get bloggers to spotlight and share the books they are anticipating on coming out.

On my wishlist this Wednesday is: Dearly Departed by Lia Habel

Description: As far as romantic pairings go in the year 2195, you don't get much more unlikely than an upper-class schoolgirl and a poor miner from enemy tribes. Filter in the fact that he's a zombie, and you're definitely talking about star-crossed love.

Dearly, Departed is a cyber-Victorian/steampunk romance that takes place in the shadow of a new ice age. Nora Dearly, a mouthy teenage girl and apparent orphan, leaves school for Christmas - only to be dragged into the night by the living dead. Luckily for her, though, the good ones got to her first. From her reanimated rescuers she learns not only that zombies are roaming the countryside, but that her father is one - and that he's in terrible trouble. She also meets Captain Bram Griswold, a noble, strong, and rather sweet undead boy for whom she starts to fall.

Meanwhile, her best friend, Pamela Roe, is just trying to carry on with life as best she can in the wake of Nora's disappearance - when she ends up killing an evil zombie in self-defense. Pam is galvanized into action, and ends up leading a group of survivors as the city of New London is thronged by the ravenous dead.

Upon hearing of Pamela's plight, Nora and Bram set out to rescue her friends, find her missing father, and maybe just save what's left of the world.

Release Date: October 18, 2011

Why WOW? Upper class Victorian girl + poor miner zombie boy = romantic pairing ?? Well, duh, of course I have to read this. If this doesn't scream original, I don't know what is. This is one of those stories where you need to find out how it turns out: good or bad. Plus, this book has such a gorgeous cover!!! I can't resist.

Book Review: Divergent by Veronica Roth

Divergent by Veronica Roth
Released Date: May 3, 2011
Publisher: Katherine Tegen Books
Pages: Hardcover (358 pages)
Age Group: Young Adult
Series: Divergent #1
Genre: Dystopian
Author Website: http://veronicarothbooks.blogspot.com/
Overall Rating: (5 out of 5 stars)
Description: In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue—Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is—she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.

During the highly competitive initiation that follows, Beatrice renames herself Tris and struggles to determine who her friends really are—and where, exactly, a romance with a sometimes fascinating, sometimes infuriating boy fits into the life she's chosen. But Tris also has a secret, one she's kept hidden from everyone because she's been warned it can mean death. And as she discovers a growing conflict that threatens to unravel her seemingly perfect society, she also learns that her secret might help her save those she loves . . . or it might destroy her.

Book Trailer:

Memorable Quotes:

"I might be in love with you." He smiles a little. "I'm waiting until I'm sure to tell you, though."

"A brave man acknowledges the strength of others."

"Fear doesn't shut you down; it wakes you up. I've seen it. It's fascinating." He releases me but doesn't pull away, his hand grazing my jaw, my neck. "Sometimes I just...want to see it again. Want to see you awake."

"Scrubbing the floor when no one else wanted to was something that my mother would have done. If I can't be with her, the least I can do is act like her sometimes."

My Musings: Let me just say it has been awhile since I have fully connected with a book inside and out. This book has all the elements of greatness: danger, romance, comedy, and action. There is never a dull moment in any portion of the story. I finished the book in one day because I could not put it down for the life of me.

I know alot of people have been comparing this series to The Hunger Games, but I think the main reason is that there are many different dystopians that are trying to compete with it and have failed. Well, let me tell you this that I believe Divergent is rival for that series. It carries very dark themes that make you sit back and have real hard look on our society.

Beatrice is such a likeable character. She is very unsure about herself in the beginning, but her growth throughout the book keeps you wanting to learn more about her.

Peter, who is the main antagonist, is such a little prick. There were moments where I just wanted to jump right into the book and strangle him. Veronica did a fantastic job making such a crazy villian like him.

The romance is just purely perfect. I don't want to give it away about who she falls for, but the development of the relationship is beautiful. This may sound cheesy, but it slowly blossoms into something beautiful, amazing, and can stand the testament of time.

Overall, I think this book is wonderful. It is always awesome to see an author not araid to touch upon dark themes like rape, war and gore. I only wish I didn't have to wait a whole year to read the next installment. I need to know what happens next!!!!!!

Cover Art: Love the cover, but it would have been nice if there was people on it.

But a storm is approaching, an army of Iron fey that will drag me back, kicking and screaming. Drag me away from the banished prince who's sworn to stand by my side. Drag me into the core of conflict so powerful, I'm not sure anyone can survive it.

This time, there will be no turning back.

Book Trailer:

Memorable Quotes:

"You are my heart, my life, my entire existence."

"I wished that, for once, faery tales – real faery tales, not Disney fairy tales – would have a happy ending."

"I have always loved you, princess" Robin Goodfellow promised, his green eyes shining in the darkness. "I always will. And I'll take whatever you can give me."

My Musings: Wow!!! This book had moments that I was not expecting. The ending completely blew my mind away. Thank God for two more books in the series. There are somethings that need to be addressed and settled.

Cover Art: Pink! Pink! And more Pink!!! Did I mention pink? I just love the vibrant colors that all the covers in this series has. Again, the model just looks stunning on this cover.

Meghan has developed so much from the first book.

"Waiting On" Wednesday- (27)

"Waiting On" Wednesday is hosted by Breaking the Spine. The purpose of this event is to get bloggers to spotlight and share the books they are anticipating on coming out.

On my wishlist this Wednesday is: The Vampire Stalker by Allison van Diepen

Description: What if the characters in a vampire novel left their world--and came into yours?
Amy is in love with someone who doesn't exist: Alexander Banks, the dashing hero in a popular series of vampire novels. Then one night, Amy meets a boy who bears an eerie resemblance to Alexander. In fact, he IS Alexander, who has escaped from the pages of the book and is in hot pursuit of a wicked vampire named Vigo. Together, Amy and Alexander set out to track Vigo and learn how and why Alexander crossed over. But when she and Alexander begin to fall for each other, Amy wonders if she even wants him to ever return to the realm of fiction.

Release Date: June 1, 2011

Why WOW? I am so excited for this book, even though its another vampire novel. I been trying to distance myself from vampire books, but when I read the premise for this one I couldn't resist. Who wouldn't want their favorite character to be a real breathing live person?? I know I would!!!

Book Review: The Iron Daughter by Julie Kagawa

The Iron Daughter by Julie Kagawa

Released Date: August 1, 2010
Publisher: Harlequin Teen
Pages: Paperback (359 pages)
Age Group: Young Adult
Series: Iron Fey #2
Genre: Fantasy
Author Website: http://www.juliekagawa.com/
Overall Rating: (5 out of 5 stars)

Description: Half Summer faery princess, half human, Meghan has never fit in anywhere. Deserted by the Winter prince she thought loved her, she is prisoner to the Winter faery queen. As war looms between Summer and Winter, Meghan knows that the real danger comes from the Iron fey—ironbound faeries that only she and her absent prince have seen. But no one believes her.

Worse, Meghan's own fey powers have been cut off. She's stuck in Faery with only her wits for help. Trusting anyone would be foolish. Trusting a seeming traitor could be deadly. But even as she grows a backbone of iron, Meghan can't help but hear the whispers of longing in her all-too-human heart.

Book Trailer:

Memorable Quotes:

"If you are going to do that, would you mind not jostling the bed so much?' came a sarcastic voice near the head board. 'Perhaps you could roll around on the floor."

"How is Oberon these days? Still being henpecked by that basilisk of a wife?"

"From the moment you stepped into the nevernever, you've been my undoing. I should never have agreed to that contract."

"..we could've had something perfect, but it just wasn't meant to be."

My Musings: Another masterpiece by Julie Kagawa. I just gush in ecstasy over her amazing writing. It is very fluid and easy to get into. I hope to one day meet her. To me laughter is a key to a good book in my opinion, and she delivers that to me with each book that I read.

Lets first start out that I love Meghan Chase. She is definitely a herione to look up to. Being a victim is not in the cards for her and I love the passion she haves for the ones that she loves. It was fun to see her in this book in new environments, such as, the Winter Court (a.k.a. Unseelie Court) which is vastly different than the Summer Court (a.k.a. Seelie Court). We can an upclose and personal view of Mab the Unseelie Queen and her horrible personality (which is quite fun).

Fans of the Meghan-Ash-Puck love triangle will not be disappointed in this book. There are alot of sweet and heart breaking moments for the two leading men. It is only at the end will there be some kind of conclusion (*wink *wink).

The Iron Fey continue to play a pivotle role in the growing war between the courts, but some are not as bad as you think. Alliances will change with many surprises.

I can't wait to read the next one, which is patiently sitting in my bookshelf ready to be dived into. Until, next time...Happy Reading!!!!

Cover Art: This series has the most beautiful covers. It also helps that this one is in purple, which such a pretty color. I love how they kept the same model as the first, and she really makes the front shine!!!

Book Review: Delirium by Lauren Oliver

Delirium by Lauren Oliver

Released Date: February 1, 2011
Publisher: Harper Teen
Pages: Hardcover (441 pages)
Age Group: Young Adult
Series: Delirium #1
Genre: Dystopian
Author Website: http://www.laurenoliverbooks.com/
Overall Rating: (4 out of 5 stars)

Description: Before scientists found the cure, people thought love was a good thing. They didn’t understand that once love -- the deliria -- blooms in your blood, there is no escaping its hold. Things are different now. Scientists are able to eradicate love, and the governments demands that all citizens receive the cure upon turning eighteen. Lena Holoway has always looked forward to the day when she’ll be cured. A life without love is a life without pain: safe, measured, predictable, and happy.

But with ninety-five days left until her treatment, Lena does the unthinkable: She falls in love.

Book Trailer:

Memorable Quotes:

"I love you. Remember. They cannot take it."

"You can't be happy unless you're unhappy sometimes."

"I'd rather die my way than live yours."

"The most dangerous sicknesses are those that make us believe we are well.
- Proverb 42, The Book of Shhh"

My Musings: I have to admit that I really enjoyed this book. Ever since The Hunger Games has been released, there seems to be an influx of dystopian romances being released. I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about the book (cuz nothing beats The Hunger Games), but I was willing to try this out. I was not disappointed.

Who would have ever thought that LOVE can be a disease you can cure with a procedure?? Apparently, in this book it can. The characters are really easy going and easy to love. Alex, the love interest, is very adorable, and the best friend Hanna kind of reminds me of my outgoing personality. It was easy for me to feel sorry for Lena, who has struggled so much in this crazy judgemental society. She is almost an outcast in a way to the rest of the town. It is through her relationships with Alex and Hanna that truly keep you going.

The only reason I gave this book a 4/5 stars was because of Lena. There were several moments in the story where I just wanted to strangle her. She kept saying she was too scared to do a particular thing, and the next scene she goes ahead and does it. Just make up your mind. Its ok to be scared but gets some courage and do something about it.

Overall, I am really happy with the story. The writing styles is smooth, and the ending left you wanting more. I love cliffhangers!!!

Cover Art: This an amazing cover. First of all, it is in my favorite color: TEAL!!! If you have the hardcover addition, when you remove the flap, you can see the full view of the girl's face on the otherside. The picture is gorgeous.
