The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

Publisher: Scholastic, Inc.

Description: Could you survive on your own, in the wild, with every one out to make sure you don't live to see the morning?

In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.

Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives alone with her mother and younger sister, regards it as a death sentence when she steps forward to take her sister's place in the Games. But Katniss has been close to dead before—and survival, for her, is second nature. Without really meaning to, she becomes a contender. But if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that will weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

Book Trailer:

Memberable Quotes:

"Remember, we're madly in love, so it's all right to kiss me anytime you feel like it."

"You don’t forget the face of the person who was your last hope."

"I don't want to lose the boy with the bread."

"I can feel Peeta press his forehead into my temple and he asks, 'So now that you've got me, what are you going to do with me?' I turn into him. 'Put you somewhere you can't get hurt."

My Musings: I absolutely fell in love with this book. It had me from the very first page. Its so good, its FABULOUS.

The most appealing part is that the author is not afraid to shock you with gory detail, and describing the ruthless behavior of the Capitol (which is the government). It is truly a dark and compelling tale from start to finish.

The main character, Katniss, is incredible. She is very strong and self-reliant. It is very refreshing to find characters like her that don't sit around and wait to be saved. She is usually the one saving others. I am all for female power.

What makes this book scary to me, is that it has the possibility to happen in our own world. Imagine total government control, where they force your children to fight to the death to show that they have all the power. Oooohh, I just got shivers.

If you are looking for a light hearted tale, than please look away because you will not find it here.

The ending could not have been any better. It left me stunned, and reaching for the next one.

On a side note: Suzanne Collins will be adapting this from book to the Silver screen. Yay!!!

Cover Art: The cover is very simple, but I love the material it is made out of. Its very sturdy, and will survive better than most hardcover paper coverings in my bag.

What a great book for a first review! :D

I couldn't agree with you more -- I fell in love with Hunger Games within the first chapter. I had put off reading it for so long because I had misgivings about the entire aspect of pitting humans against other humans (let alone children), but that was quickly dissolved.

I loved Katniss, I loved the plot, I loved the action, but most of all? I freakin' loved Peeta! (I haven't read Mockingjay yet so don't spoil me D: )

Great review <33

I took me forever to convince myself to read The Hunger Games. Way too long, but I loved it and was kicking myself for not giving it a chance sooner. Katniss rocks! And Peeta, well he is great for a book-crush any day of the week!

Great review! I am a new follower!
